Wednesday's Missteps

Was right in front of me, too:

Marty Walsh wins second term as Boston mayor

The question now is what will Marty Walsh do with his new-found power as he writes Boston’s next chapter?

********

At least Texas is off the front page.

"Records that emerged Tuesday add up to at least three missed opportunities for law enforcement to stop Devin Patrick Kelley was also named as a suspect in a 2013 sexual assault in his hometown of New Braunfels, 35 miles from the church attack....."

Globe still has something to say about the price of ignoring domestic abuse so get smart

Michigan lawmakers looks to allow concealed guns in schools

How odd that ISIS™ is now threatening the schools (especially when all the robocalls came from Israel, remember?) and all the little children. Makes 'em grow up fast.

House moves ahead with tax bill as pushback mounts

I know I'm probably missing something (like a lone wolf?)

"Official says Puerto Rico needs ‘unprecedented’ federal help" by Matthew Daly Associated Press  November 07, 2017

WASHINGTON — Puerto Rico has suffered such extensive devastation from Hurricane Maria that its recovery will fail unless the island gets more help from the Trump administration and Congress, the head of a federal control board that oversees Puerto Rico’s finances said Tuesday.

Natalie Jaresko, executive director of the federal control board, told Congress that the US territory needs emergency and restoration funds ‘‘on an unprecedented scale’’ to restore housing, water, and electric power.

The territory will need from $13 billion to $21 billion over the next two years to keep the government operating and cover the salaries of police officers, teachers, and other employees, Jaresko said in testimony prepared for the House Natural Resources committee Tuesday.

While conditions have improved since the Sept. 20 storm, nearly 60 percent of the island is without electricity, thousands remain in shelters, and tens of thousands of houses do not have roofs, Jaresko said. The installation of temporary tarps will not be completed for months, she added.

‘‘Without unprecedented levels of help from the United States government, the recovery we were planning for will fail,’’ Jaresko said.

Former Air Force Colonel Noel Zamot, named to oversee power restoration, said he had no estimate for when work would be completed, although other officials have said power will not be fully restored until next year.

Remember that general they put in charge of New Orleans who was later lauded as a hero?

The power authority declared bankruptcy before the storm, and Representative Rob Bishop, Republican from Utah [and] chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, said a long history of severe mismanagement, inadequate maintenance, and ‘‘political cronyism’’ have exacerbated the island’s problems.

Tuesday’s hearing was not intended to ‘‘ascribe blame or browbeat or play politics,’’ Bishop said. ‘‘The goal isn’t to shame for shame’s sake. The goal is to fix problems and help people.’’

But if you get that other stuff to divert attention and inflame opinion, well, okay.

Representative Raul Labrador, Republican from Idaho, defended the Trump administration’s response and said the severity of the storm has made recovery difficult.....

That is the “hard truth.”

"Rand Paul is said to be mystified why neighbor attacked" by Adam Beam and Bruce Schreiner Associated Press  November 08, 2017

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For days, mystery has swirled around what led to the assault, from Washington to the high-end gated community where both men live. Rumors spread that the attack stemmed from a festering neighborhood dispute about lawn debris, but the FBI is investigating the assault to see if it was politically motivated.

The assault has threatened his life.

59-year-old Rene Boucher, US Senator Rand Paul’s neighbor for 17 years, was released Saturday from the Warren County Jail on a $7,500 bond. A judge ordered Boucher to stay away from Paul and his family, a decision Baker said was routine in such cases, with Paul still recovering at his home.

That is odd.

I don't know what happened. We are told Reid's brother-in-law beat him up and John Kerry fell off a bicycle (after castigating Israel). Looks like Rand got worked over for some reason and this is the crap cover story they came up with.

Police charged Boucher, 59, with misdemeanor fourth-degree assault with a minor injury. He has not returned multiple calls seeking comment and did not answer the door when a reporter knocked on Monday.

Paul is an ophthalmologist, and Boucher is an anesthesiologist. Boucher’s attorney, Matt Baker, called them ‘‘both prominent members of the medical community’’ who ‘‘worked together when they were both practicing physicians.’’

Porter said Paul was ‘‘in pretty good spirits to be in as much pain as he was.’’

He's happy to be alive.

So what votes will he be missing?

Trump's “sticking to his guns is probably the correct approach,” and going more mainstream could “alienate their core [young male] group, which brought them here.”

Btw, I'm sure the controlled opposition protester made a mistake when he referred to the “free choice” they now enjoy in Russia.
